Hi all, not posted anything for a while due to how busy the club has been in the end of season run in, a mention for the under 11s coming 2nd in the league and winning the league cup against a good Oadby Owls side. Another great season for the girls who at 7 a side just need to keep progressing there learning, well done to the team from the club.

The under 13s had a good season with a new team and many changes from the past year, 3rd in the league is great and looking at the team we know there is more to come next season, keep up the work and the results will follow. The under 16s started to prove this in the Leam Hibs tournament and I am sure will have a good learning season next year with a new coach.

I say keep up the hard work and results follow, the ladies are testament to this, facing relegation last season and only just staying in the league, with no time to waste, the team had no time off during the summer and plenty of work to get on with if they wanted to stay in the league this season. Even adult teams need that little bit of encouragement and hope, this was given and they responded. A great start to the season from teams that saw them as whipping team the season before became the team to beat, yes the ladies had there past season upsets during the season but the attitude to these was to get up brush them selves off and win the next game. They just kept going and the final league table of points ensured they come runners up. From relegation tag to runners up in the prem league, Rugby Town Ladies FC have now turned in to a team where teams look at tactics to win, just turning up will not do any more to win against Rugby Town Ladies FC.

Rugby Town Ladies FC have just completed there final tournament of the season at Leam Hibs undefeated in there group and winning the final against Knowle Ladies FC who are in the regional league above and for any player in the club willing to learn they just need to take a look at the team or speak to them as a few coach the youth as well to see what you need to do to change your fortunes as a player or team.

But the manager/coach said he will keep his secrets to him self, so don’t ask, he just thinks his team is a great team to admire in the club and there progress in football, and yes they still have to improve as well next season!!

Who is it all about!!

After 8 years in youth football, I had my first taste of a full season of management for the ladies team, but 2nd season with the under 11s. Before this time I was used to being coach of teams and as the club knows Francis Powell the most successful manager this club has known stepped down 2 years ago I found myself having to make those all important decisions and looking back to see how to make the hard choices that Francis made. Well I had an exceptional mentor that’s all I can say.

Last season my first managing a team and especially in the cup final I was not prepared as a manager, the team was prepared no doubt about that. Players make errors but managers can make bigger ones, so my own personal aim was to look at myself and how I manage teams. Volunteers look at them selves just as much if not more than players!

We have many volunteers in the club and we owe a great deal of respect to them for the hard work they put in to the club and that is one aspect over the next season I would like the club to look at and involve more parents and respect there time with teams. But then you have to respect the players that turn out every week some for 3 hours on a Saturday trying to improve there ability and the young group with Oddy doing keeper practice is great, name me another girls club in the area with level 1 and 2 keeper coaches!!

Back to myself!!, I hope I have learned over the past 12 months, some good some bad, but we have to venture there to understand other peoples actions and learn from them. Take the ladies team all I do is turn up for coaching and match day the rest is done for me, from there I have to study and understand our team and the opposition again not always right but I promise I will get there. The under 11s, I now have a coach even less work for me, now is a case of study and understand again taking my time but by the end of the season the team won against all and returned the league cup to the club.

As the ladies go into there last game of the season I would just like to say a big thank you to players, coaches and parents for the time you give, I don’t care what any one else thinks all I know is the players at this club are a credit to Rugby and as chairman I look forward to the future of all teams.

3 Down 2 to Go!!

With a hectic schedule for the club and players once we get to June the volunteers can rest and enjoy the days out at the tournaments.

1st up was the league semi finals day held at Kilsby Lane, great day for the club in arranging so many games in 1 day at its impressive facility.

2nd up came the Women’s FA Cup final at the City ground Nottingham, a coach trip put on by the club and all that went on the club annual event enjoyed the game, nearly going to penalties, but a late winner by Everton took the Cup.

3rd up was the Clubs Annual Schools Tournament, after count up. 54 games were played on the day and it was good to see over 130 girls in attendance. Despite the weather it was great to see such enthusiasm from the girls playing, some in there first every game of football.

4th and next is the Club Annual Awards, should be a great night with managers having plenty to say and players collecting there awards for the season from the club. The clubs new kit for the 10/11 season will be presented on the night, still under wraps for now.

5th will be the final event of the year, the Club Open Day for any one to come along and enjoy the FA coaching from our volunteers who give the club so much energy and drive through the year.

Then we can all wind down and enjoy some summer fitness and coaching sessions!!

A big thank you to all volunteers for there work through out the season so far, the members and my self really appreciate your hard work in making this club one of the best in the area for female football and we have the best facilities to match!!

Long Time No Write!!

A busy time for the club, 1 out of 4 end of season events down, 3 to go

First up was the league semi finals day, excellent pitches and sunshine for the under 11s through to the under 18s girls to play good football on. To the people that helped either setting up or working during the day to ensure the day went well a big thank you from the club it was a great day for us to hold such a large event. Our very own under 11s winning and through to the finals helped.

We often just turn up and play, next time you are at Kilsby Lane, go slow and just as you turn the corner at the top marvel at the venue and condition of the pitches that so much work behind the scenes goes into, all unsung hero’s of the club that keep the facility to what it is today. I still take in the site of place on arrival and a glance around empty or full, do you know a better place to play football?

Next up the Women’s FA Cup Final at the city ground on the 3rd, a coach from RTGLFC will pay the annual visit to watch some top ladies football.

Then the schools tournament on the 8th May, 19 teams from across Rugby down at Kilsby Lane to enjoy female football

To complete the 4 out 4 the clubs annual event 14th May 2010, will prove to be a good night for all members with many awards on the night for each team.

From there the under 11s still have there cup final to play and awards to collect, the ladies will continue playing until the end of May, then we are booked into some new tournaments never visited before which will end the season with days out and bit of fun.

Meetings, Meetings and more Meetings

Meetings, meetings and more meetings, seams to be flavour of the month for March, so far 5 and only on the 10th of the month, but all good as all have included development of girls and ladies football in Rugby Town. Plenty of developments over the next month should ensure a healthy future for female football in Rugby (more information to come).

Bit of a damp squid of a month as well with one week end games all cancelled and training has been difficult, but let’s hope we are now over the worst of the weather and enjoy the football to the end of the season.

Managed to book a day off myself last week from training so my first youth coaching of the month will be this week end, oh I bet the members are looking forward to Mr Grumpy coming back (always takes me 30minutes to warm up to being Mr Happy!!)

Good month for the ladies now with the under 16s joining them at training with a 2 hour slot on the 3g astro turf at Butlin Road, and a slender win v Redditch keeps them on course for great season, now 12 months since I took up the post of the ladies manager and the response from the team has been outstanding, how the season ends up we don’t know but from last season to now, the response is there to see, can they continue, well we will see by the season end. My other team the under 11s booked there place in the semi finals of the league cup which for the first time will be held at Kilsby Lane, home of Rugby Town Juniors Football. It will be great day for all of Rugby, more details to follow over the next few weeks.

Well we now enter the run in to the season end, and I wish all teams the best. This time of the season the training put in at the beginning of the season starts to count for all teams in the club. There is plenty to look forward to with Casino night, schools tournament, semi finals day, annual event, bowling fun day out, plus a few other special announcements, but mums the word on these!!

Football Talk

After an uneventful week end last week we hope to see a full week end of football, no updates last week as snow, ice and rain put paid to any hope of football being played.

This week end see the under 9s, 11s, 13s, and 16s in action and we look forward to seeing them playing some good football, especially the under 9s, a new team that are learning and any coaches favourite team to be with, keep showing the progress girls.

The ladies also have a home fixture at 2pm down Kilsby Lane, main pitch as the team like to show off there skills then into the club house to watch the remainder of the Carling Cup final of Man United v Aston Villa.

It does not seam that long ago but it is now 12 months since I took over as manager of the ladies (originally just to see last season out and stay in the premier league, no one wanted them so I stayed on to manage this season!!), one thing has pleased me the most is the work ethic of the team, from bottom of the league to the upper parts of the league this season with a strong bond of a team, I mention work ethic as for any team preparation is key and for this team last summer was the turning point, and now with the added under 16s training with the team the future growth looks good with members of the youth learning the football the ladies play, on that another transformation from kick ball to football so many areas of the ladies have improved I could not point to one thing that has seen the most improvement.

The Weekend ahead
First up is Saturday training with the 16s, 13s then 11s and Youth, then to plant some trees down Kilsby Lane, home for a sleep before managing the under 11s away to Ibstock on Sunday then a quick journey back to manage the ladies for 2pm KO, then a watch of the final before home and changed and back to a meeting for 7pm, guess the week end is gone again, but I only do it to get out of work!!

An Eventfull Week End

Some people may say it’s a lot of work, others look at the members of the club and see what they get out of it, gratfull to say I look at the latter of the two. From coaching for 3 hours on Saturday, then down to Kilsby Lane to help the other volunteers plant trees and shrubs, this is an essential part of the planning of Kilsby Lane and we have a laugh while down there. Well that’s Saturday gone, one more day to go then a nice peacefull week at work, well I can always wish for it!!.

Sunday and the under 13s in action in the cup with a team in a higher league, they did well, bit sleepy at times but they gave a great display and considering myself and Loz took the team for the first time in a game due to the management being away they listened and played a good game, we as coaches for the team took a lot away from the game to work with, in readyness for the next league game.

The only other game was the ladies and playing at home down Kilsby Lane on the main pitch with lots of room to work with, 2 great first half goals sealed the win for the ladies in a first half even I was pleased with as there manager!!. The 2nd half was just as good but a different type of play by the ladies we had to play the energy game and that’s one place we at Rugby can do with the oppostion pressing hard and Rugby looking for the counter.

With 2 ladies going for the ball the opposition player went down in a lot of pain, the game was halted and emergency services called, and another plus point for the Rugby Borough, the speed and efficently the fast response paramedic arrived followed by the amblunce to take the lady to hospital with suspected broken ankle. I am pleased to report a baddly bruised ankle and in some pain with may be ligiment damaged but not broken, the lady left Walsgrave hospital Sunday night, we at Rugby wish her a speedy recovery and back to football asap. It just goes to show some times bad injurys can happen, may be lucky or not but in all my time (8 years of coaching) 1 broken rest and a broken collar bone, while not nice for any one getting any injury it is a contact sport and I for one is thank full that is all the breaks I have had with over 100 players coached in this time. Best wishes to the lady, no one wants to see any one injured to a point of time out of the game.

Well that was the week end, oh and another meeting in the evening to finish, back to work now, but bring on Wednesday for midweek training, keep going Rugby Town Girls & Ladies FC and lets look for the strong finish to the season over the next few months.

General Waffle!!

As another weekend of football passes by, we start the run in to the end of season and cup dates, so some exiting times ahead for teams in the club. Still at this time of the season in the cold and wet we have full squads turning out for practice, which makes the managers and coaches life easier to do their job.

Job! I hear you say I thought I volunteered for this, well at times it feels like a part time job or even full time if meetings are held during weekends and midweek. However, you can undertake a role in the club with only limited time taken, an hour a week and as well as watching your daughter play, help out on match days, contact a team manager or email through the site to find out more, as with all clubs we are always seeking new committed volunteers in the club that want to do the best for the girls we love to see playing football.

Teams update, while the 16s find it tough with player injuries and new ones coming in mid season it is proving to be a tough year but with the addition of Wednesday night training we hope to continue the improvement in the squad for next season. The new under 9s are well on their way to becoming a good team for the future and with more players turning up to strengthen the under 8s the club continues make progress on recruitment of players. The under 11s continue to play attractive football and learn in readiness for 11-a-side in the future, (7-a-side is there for players to learn and progress skills not just win games). The amazing story of the under 13s as they continue to achieve great results and proudly sit near the summit of the table from a new team set up to now just shows what can be achieved in such little time with coaching and more importantly the players attitudes. The ladies to end with, it is not just youth teams that have to show the right attitude to training and the ladies have done just that from last year to this year with more or less the same team, come down and watch to see for your self the transformation of the team.

Keep it going all, and well done so far for the season on your commitment to playing and supporting your fellow members of the team through the season, it is great to see such good football being played by all of the members.

Week End of Frost and Busy Football Weekend Ahead

With most games getting cancelled this week end due to the frost, only one survived and that was a trip over to Birmingham Medics for the Rugby Town Ladies FC, a tough game for the ladies on a solid pitch but they managed to come away with a win, continuing the start to 2010.

Then on to the monthly coaches meeting, this month put on by the University of Birmingham, Empowering Coaching Workshop and 3 hours well spent with the towns coaches, how to develop players in sport, i am sure every one that attended went away with some thinking to do.

A few days work before midweek ladies training, then youth groups Saturday training and hopefully a full fixture list next Sunday, with both 16s and ladies playing at Towns football ground, Kilsby Lane. Pop down to watch if your at a lose end, 10.30am for 16s and 2pm for the ladies kick off. Then to finish off the Sunday the club committee meeting.

At last a full week end of training and games

A full day at Kilsby Lane Sunday, first up my under 11s with coach Loz who after such a long lay off due to weather put in a display to be proud off, great movement and passing, never being happy we have plenty to take back to the training ground next week!!

Next up, or should say down the hill to watch to the 16s playing on the impressive SF1 at Kilsby Lane, managed to get the last 10 minutes here, and despite losing by a couple of late goals after going for an equaliser, you can see there is more to come from the team, keep going girls the results will come.

Ok so now on to my other team the Rugby Town Ladies with a 2pm KO, bit of lunch and moving to SF2 to let the boys play an important cup game on the main pitch, only difference is a longer walk but equal to SF1 pitch quality. As with all teams no football this year but this did not stop the ladies recording a good win against a determined Hopwood Star.

All in all a good day at Kilsby Lane home of Rugby Town Girls & Ladies FC, and finished off with a club meeting up the Railway Club!!

Training was back to normal times this Saturday for all teams and the coaches, great to see a good turn out.

Not Again!!

Hi Everyone

I am sorry to say all games and all training is off this week end coming due to the weather again, even if the snow and ice melts playing conditions would not be good and with rain forecast Friday and Saturday just adds to the problems.

But if we believe the forecast this far ahead we will be back next week end!!

What to do with no football again!!

I would expect to be bored but found myself running round on Saturday and then with a trip out sledging on Sunday and some snow balls that hit there intended target the week end soon passed with the club monthly meeting to round the week end off.

Just a bruised back and big toe, not to mention the sprained wrist from falling off the sledge, I hope all the members enjoyed there extended break from football and a little less injured then me.

We are hoping to be back to football next week end, this will be decided by Wednesday / Thursday as if the snow and ice only starts melting mid week the pitches could be damaged if played on, we will let all manages know asap during the week.

Rugby Town Girls & Ladies FC Club Update

Hi and a good new year to all.

I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas and recharged ready for the 2nd half of the season.

All teams are back to training this week end with a full fixture list (weather permitting of course), you manager will be in contact with you.

We now have posters ready to give out in the club, if you can put a few up ask for Gemma Oddy or Annie Burns at Training and they will make sure you get some to put up around the town as the club aims to fill up the teams ready for end of season tournaments and preparation for next season.

For committee members the meeting first meeting of the new year is at 7pm @ the Railway Club, if any members have any questions to put to the club please email me back and I will take to the meeting.
